Vantage Point

"Vantage Point" is a fast-paced, non-stop thriller that weaves its story together from different angles, replaying a terrorist attack by showing six different points of view.

Getting a little irritated yet?

It's at this point where the audience around me was getting visibly annoyed. Don't get me wrong, each sequence showing an attempt on the President's life from the perspective of different characters is great. But, it gets replayed a total of SIX times before moving the story forward. I could copy that paragraph for you two more times, but I won't.

Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox star as Secret Service agents protecting the President of the United States during a speech in Spain. After he is apparently gunned down, it's up to these two to find the killer. They are at the heart of the story. Helping to give more depth to what is really going on, we meet a variety of other characters attending the same event, never quite clear on how they will eventually play into the plot. There are a number of twists, none of which I'll divulge here. It is after the replays are done that the movie kicks into full gear, not slowing down until the very end.

While it is interesting to watch the plot come together, the device the director uses does become tiresome, and there are points where you have to suspend reality. Still, this is as fast-paced as they come, with only the Forest Whitaker character seeming a bit out of place. "Vantage Point" is a great matinee popcorn movie worth seeing. From my view, I give it a B.

"Vantage Point" is rated PG-13 with a running time of 90 minutes.
